Winchester, MA Badminton Club Honors Paul Surette

Winchester Badminton Club current and past members honored their currently longest-playing member on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, presenting Paul Surette with a lifetime free membership and party. Paul turned 85 years young this past May and has been playing with the Winchester Badminton Club for over 55 years. Paul had the pleasure of playing with many players from years past at other locations, and, of course, from Winchester. Well over 30 players showed to honor him.

Here are some photos from the evening:

The Winchester Badminton Club has been operating since 1932. The International Badminton Federation (IBF), now known as Badminton World Federation, was established in 1934, and thus Winchester has been involved with the sport longer than then the IBF!. When WBC leader Bob Gallant retired in his eighties, the Winchester Recreation Department continued hosting the club for badminton players.

WinRec Badminton plays from 7 to 10 p.m. every week at the McCall Middle School when school is in session. Contact the current manager at elainegam@rcn.com for joining/playing or for more details, visit the webpage at http://www.wolfberg.net/badminton/winchester.
